From Moshi, you will drive towards the Rongai trailhead and begin your trek from the village of Nale Moru. The trail starts by passing through cultivated farmland before gradually entering the peaceful pine forest.
As you gain altitude, the path winds gently through the forest, an area that is home to various species of wildlife, including the distinctive Kilimanjaro colobus monkey. Eventually, the forest becomes thinner as you enter the moorland zone, where you will enjoy expansive views stretching towards the Kenyan plains.
Continue to the first campsite, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 3: 1st Cave Camp | 2nd Cave Camp
Following breakfast, the day’s trek begins with a gradual climb towards Second Cave. Along the way, you will be rewarded with impressive views of Kibo Peak and the Eastern Ice Fields situated around the crater rim.
After lunch, you will leave the main route and follow a quieter trail across the moorland towards the spectacular Mawenzi peaks. The landscape becomes increasingly rugged as you make your way to a sheltered valley near Kikelewa Caves.
The campsite, located at approximately 3,600 metres above sea level, provides a peaceful setting to rest and prepare for the next stage of the climb.

Day 4: 2nd Cave Camp | Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Today involves a relatively short but steeper ascent across grassy slopes. Your effort will be rewarded with magnificent panoramic views and a growing feeling of being surrounded by true mountain wilderness.
As the trail climbs higher, the vegetation gradually gives way to a more barren alpine environment. You will eventually arrive at Mawenzi Tarn Camp, dramatically positioned within a natural cirque beneath the impressive rock formations and spires of Mawenzi Peak.
The afternoon is reserved for relaxation and acclimatization. You may choose to rest at camp or take a gentle walk around the surrounding area with your guide.
Dinner and overnight at Mawenzi Tarn Camp.
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Camp | Kibo Camp
After breakfast, you will set out across the remarkable Saddle, the broad high-altitude desert situated between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
The scenery changes dramatically as you cross this vast, barren landscape, creating a striking contrast to the vegetation encountered during the earlier stages of the trek. You will eventually reach Kibo Camp, located at the base of the Kibo crater wall.
The rest of the day is dedicated to rest and preparation for the demanding summit attempt. An early dinner will be served, after which you will have time to rest before beginning your ascent around midnight.

Day 6: Kibo Camp | Uhuru Peak | Horombo Hut
The most challenging and rewarding part of the trek begins around midnight with the ascent towards the summit. Accompanied by your experienced mountain crew, you will climb slowly through the darkness, taking regular breaks to conserve energy and adjust to the increasing altitude.
The route leads towards the crater rim at Stella Point, situated at approximately 5,685 metres. From Stella Point, you will continue along the crater rim towards Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest elevation in Africa.
After reaching the summit, you will have time to celebrate your achievement, take photographs, and appreciate the extraordinary views before beginning the descent.
You will descend towards Kibo Camp for a short rest and breakfast before continuing across the Saddle towards Horombo Hut.
